Croatia Vacation Packages

Croatia vacation packages will enable you to see this beautiful country which is situated in Southeastern Europe, and borders the Adriatic Sea, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro, Hungary and Slovenia.

Croatia has a population of about four and a half million people. It reaches from the eastern edge of the Alps in the north west to the River Danube and the Pannonian Lowlands in the east. The Dinara Mountains are in the central region and in the south is the Adriatic Sea. Croatia has over 1700 kilometres of coastline, which is stunningly beautiful and is not over-developed like much of the Mediterranian coastline elsewhere in Europe. Offshore are 1185 islands, only 66 of which are inhabited. Your Croatia vacation package will take you to the country which was proclaimed in 2006 by the American magazine, National Geographic Adventure, to be the top destination in the world.

Croatia Vacation Packages: Culture
Croatia was inhabited in the seventh century B.C. by the Illyrians and many monumental sculptures exist from these times. In the first century A.D. the Illyrians were overtaken by the Romans and there are many examples today of Roman architecture, the best of which are in Split and Pula. The migration of the Slavs occurred in the Middle Ages, and eventually the Slavic states were formed.
The cuisine of Croatia varies from region to region. On the Adriatic coast seafood is predominant, whereas inland a bean and maize soup, known as Manistra Od Bobica, and a baked cheese dumpling known as Struki, are very popular.
There are a number of museums and art galleries in Croatia. The Ethnographic Museum in Zagreb showcases the traditional culture of Croatia, with rotating exhibitions concentrating on different parts of the country, whereas the Studio Metrovi features the works of the celebrated Croatian sculptor, Ivan Metrovic. The Museum of the City of Zagreb is an interactive museum which features the history and culture of Croatia from the Roman times to the present day.

Croatia Vacation Packages: Architecture
Croatia has a long and varied architectural heritage which reflects its long history, dating from the Roman times. Pula and Split have the best preserved Roman remains, and the amphitheatre in Pula and Diocletian's Palace in Split are highlights.
The long architectural heritage is demonstated by the beauty of places such as Dubrovnik, Sibenik, Zadar, Korkula and Trogir. Trogir has walls, castles, palaces and other buildings of varied architectural styles, including Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque.
The coastal towns of Croatia comprise Roman, Renaissance and Baroque architecture, and in the Lonjsko Polje region there are many well preserved examples of the Posavina wooden cottage architecture.

Croatia Vacation Packages: Outdoor Activities
Those who seek a more active holiday are well catered for in Croatia, with many national parks, over 1700 kilometres of coastline, rivers, mountains and forests to keep them happy. The Mediterranean climate makes a beach holiday an attractive option, and there are many good diving sites with underwater caves and coral reefs to be explored.
Croatia offers many opportunities for cycling and hiking, and the routes can be as demanding or relaxing as you wish, with many different options available.
The many rivers and large coastline provide many and varied opportunities for kayaking and rafting, and these activities are increasing in popularity.
Other activities include windsurfing, sailing and rock-climbing.

Croatia Vacation Packages: Cities
The capital city of Croatia is Zagreb, with a population of about 800,000. Although it is the political, economic and scientific centre of Croatia, it has a relaxing rhythm and is home to markets, good shopping and a number of hotels and restaurants of various sizes. Zagreb is a mixture of medieval and modern, with most attractions close to the centre of the city.
The heritage of Dubrovnik was recognised by UNESCO in 1979 with the awarding of World Heritage Status to the city. The beautiful 13th. century architecture is still mostly intact today. Dubrovnik is situated at the southern end of Croatia on the Adriatic coast, and is a major tourist destination. The city is surrounded by ancient walls which include a number  of towers and bastions. Dubrovnik is dotted with ancient churches, monasteries, various other old dwellings, and fountains.
Rijeka is a popular tourist destination with wonderful architecture and the Rijeka Natural History Museum is well worth a visit. The Naval and Historical Museum, the Modern Art Gallery and the University Library offer the visitor an insight into the history and culture of the city. Being situated on the Adriatic coast, Rijeka is also very popular with those who enjoy water sports.
Other cities are Opatija, which is a popular summer resort, and Osijek, which is the largest city in the East of Croatia and is the cultural and economic centre of Slavonia.

This country is such a beautiful tourist destination that Croatia Vacation Packages should always be considered as integral to anyone's Europe vacation deals.
